Uniqueness with that certain “extra”
The latest creation of fixture supplier Witte Far East Pte. Ltd. (Singapore) is a sandwich plate with integrated lift function for a German car manufacturer.
Designing a mobile sandwich plate on which complete car models can be moved to an accurate position for measuring was the job in question. The challenge was achieving it without any extra lifting equipment
How is this achieved?
- The car is pulled on ramps up to the sandwich plate using a winch and parked on to positioning plates
- Scissor lift-tables under those plates lift car into position
- Custom built support points are mounted onto a large hovercraft plate
- This is then aligned underneath the car
- Scissor lift-tables retract back down to start position
- The car is positioned securely on 4- 6 supports and measuring starts after CMM has established zero position using reference ball
- After measuring car is secured to winch cable and after steps 1-5 have been carried out in reverse order it is gently lowered back down the ramps
This sandwich plate can be used for different models simply by changing the support points.
It enables random inspection checks of complete models i.e. before and after tests. The complete unit, made in high-tensile aluminium, is also equipped with hovercraft cushions underneath making movement inside customer’s measuring environment really easy.
